ABOUT ANNA UNIVERSITY

Anna University, established on September 4, 1978, is named after Dr. C.N. Annadurai, a former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. It specializes in higher education in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, and Applied Sciences, aligning with societal needs. The university promotes research, knowledge dissemination, and collaboration between academia and industry. It was formed by integrating four renowned institutions in Chennai:

  • College of Engineering (CEG) – Established in 1794
  • Alagappa College of Technology (ACT) – Established in 1944
  • Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) – Established in 1949
  • School of Architecture & Planning (SAP) – Established in 1957

Travelling from Chennai International Airport to Anna University

Travelling from Chennai International Airport to Anna University is a common route for students, faculty, and visitors to the university. This distance makes it a relatively short and convenient trip within the city.

Details: The Chennai Metro offers a convenient and relatively fast way to travel. From the airport (Airport Metro Station), take the Blue Line towards Washermenpet and get off at the Little Mount Station. From Little Mount, Anna University is about a 10-minute auto rickshaw or cab ride away.

Traveling from Chennai central railway station to Anna University is a common route for students, faculty, and visitors to the university.  This distance makes it a relatively short and convenient trip within the city.

By Taxi/Auto-rickshaw:
Taxi: You can book a taxi directly from Chennai Central Railway Station to Anna University. The distance is approximately 10 kilometers and takes around 30-40 minutes depending on traffic.
Auto-rickshaw: You can also take an auto-rickshaw, which is a common and convenient mode of transport in Chennai. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand or ask the driver to use the meter.

By Public Transport (Bus and Train):
Bus: Walk to the bus stop outside Chennai Central Railway Station.
Take a bus heading towards Guindy or Adyar and get off at the Anna University bus stop. Buses like 18B, 19B, and others run this route.
The bus journey takes about 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic.

Suburban Train and Bus: From Chennai Central, take a suburban train to Guindy Railway Station.
From Guindy, you can take a bus or an auto-rickshaw to Anna University. The university is about 3-4 kilometers from Guindy, and the bus ride takes around 10-15 minutes.

By Metro:Walk or take an auto-rickshaw to the Chennai Central Metro Station.
Take the Blue Line towards the Chennai International Airport and get off at the Saidapet Metro Station.
From Saidapet, you can take a short auto-rickshaw ride or bus to Anna University. The university is about 3 kilometers from Saidapet Metro Station.
